Shotty Snipers has been a fan-favorite mode in the Halo series, and it might be returning in Halo Infinite. A recent datamine by Twitter user InfiniteLeaks displayed lines of code that included the phrase “AttritionFFAS2EventShottySnipes.” This leads us to believe that Shotty Snipers could return to Halo as part of a limited-time event during Season 2. There is a precedent for this, as Halo Infinite has already linked new game types to events in the past. For example, Fiesta was initially tied to the Fracture: Tenrai event.
Looking at the other words in the code seems to reveal further details. The line also includes words like “attrition” and “FFA.” Attrition was a mode introduced during the limited-time Cyber Showdown event in January. It was a variant of Team Slayer where teams had a limited pool of lives as well as the option to revive their teammates once the pool was exhausted. The leaked code suggests a free-for-all variant of Attrition that would limit players to using shotguns and sniper rifles.
There has been no official confirmation of Shotty Snipers returning from 343 Industries just yet, so take this leak with a grain of salt. That said, we can expect to hear more details about Season 2, titled Lone Wolves, in the lead-up to its May 3 release date.
The new additions coming to Halo Infinite
Halo Infinite players have recently complained about the lack of new content coming to the game. Season 1 saw various updates, but it wasn’t enough to satiate the fanbase. The second season looks to be changing this with new maps, game modes, armor cores, and a heavier focus on storytelling. The new maps include Catalyst, a Forerunner-themed Arena map, and Breaker as a new Big Team Battle map.
Beyond PvP multiplayer, Halo fans are also expecting some long overdue additions to the game. Campaign co-op support will be added to the game sometime during Season 2, while the map-editing Forge mode will appear in Season 3.
