ARPG Shadows: Heretic Kingdoms has received its first major Early Access patch, adding a host of new stuff – like a new playable character – and improving the combat.

I don’t have a full set of patch notes to hand, but I do have a pretty good list of what’s been added. So! There’s a new playable character called Zaar and a brand new zone called The Outlands. You can customise your party and characters in the Devourer’s Lair, there’ve been improvements to the GUI and loot system, DirectX11 support is in, and there’ve been a bunch of changes made based on player feedback. As two examples, controller support has been added and there are “much more dynamic battles.” Considering the combat was a big complaint of Paul’s when he had a play of Shadows: Heretic Kingdoms‘ Early Access build, that’s got to please him.

Being that there’s a whole new area you can also expect a new boss fight, new enemies, new equipment, new enemies, new NPCs, and a load of bugfixes. You can have a look at the list of what’s new over on Steam.

Shadows: Heretic Kingdoms is currently in Early Access on Steam, priced at £22.99. You can have a read of Paul’s impressions over here.
