The highly anticipated love letter to old-school RPGs Sea of Stars has received a release date for August. Developed by the makers of the acclaimed game The Messenger, Seas of Stars features striking pixel art and active turn-based combat.
Developer Sabotage Studio announced that Sea of Stars will release on PC this summer. The news came way of the most recent Nintendo Direct. Sabotage also announced a demo, which is available today on the Nintendo eShop. The demo, which is currently exclusive to the Switch, will make its way to other platforms later in the year, the developer has also stated.
Sea of Stars takes place in a fantastical world. Players assume the roles of Valere and Zale as they embark on their fated journey to become Solstice Warriors. The duo can create immensely powerful Eclipse Magic by combining their powers of Sun and Moon. They hold the key to fighting the evil alchemist known only as The Fleshmancer.
Sea of Stars gets an August release date
The game’s soundtrack has also been a talking point. Yasunori Mitsuda — known for his work on the Chrono series and other revolutionary games such as the Xenoblade franchise — is helping to compose the game, alongside Sabotage’s in-house composer Eric W. Brown.
The release date trailer shown during the Direct goes over a bunch of footage, including exploration and the game’s combat system. Sea of Stars features traversal across all sorts of land and water as you climb, swim, vault, and scale ledges in what seemingly is rather freeing exploration. The combat also features Paper Mario-esque actions during attacks, meaning if you time a button press correctly, it strengthens the unit’s damage. There are also no random encounters, meaning you can fight whom you want, when you want.
Sea of Stars‘ release date is August 29 for PC. Stay tuned for more news leading up to its launch.
