Scizor weaknesses and best counters in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

A fierce opponent.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet have been one of the most active Pokémon games post-launch, with new additions being added every couple of weeks to months. This content comes in various different shapes and sizes, like how some content drops consist of new Pokémon for you to get via Mystery Gifts, or some content drops are adding new raids for players to do, which can be a bit of a challenge. One of those raids is the event that runs for Scizor raids. Here’s our guide for Scizor weaknesses and best counters in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

Scizor weaknesses and best counters in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

Scizor is a well-known Pokémon among the fandom for being a pretty lethal speedy attacker, but due to its typing, having one big area of weakness. Scizor’s standard type is Bug/Steel, meaning it only has one weakness, that being a quad weakness to Fire-type moves. This means while Scizor doesn’t have many weaknesses, if it does get put up against a counter that has a Fire-type move that can hit it before it takes that counter out, it’s game over for Scizor.

This does mean however that usually finding best counters for Scizor can be quite hard, as there is only one weakness to aim for. You can either stick to using a Fire-type or go out and grab yourself a Pokémon of a different type that has access to Fire-type moves. In this endeavor though, we’re fighting Scizor in a Tera Raid, meaning that we only have to aim for weaknesses of that specific type, and thanks to the Tera Raid being a random type for Scizor, you can figure this out as we go.

To go over Scizor’s stats, you’re going to want to be watching out for its physical attack, which sits a very high 130. You should also make the correct preparation when deciding on your attacking counters too, as Scizor has pretty respectable defenses with 100 Defense and 80 Special Defense. Therefore, Scizor can be a very hard Pokémon to take down in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

Beating the Scizor raid

Let’s begin by going over Scizor’s moves, from my research these are the moves that Scizor uses in the current raid event.

  • X Scissor
  • Agility
  • Aerial Ace
  • Swords Dance
  • Night slash
  • Focus energy

Finding a counter for this Scizor fight in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet can become a little tricky, as Scizor obviously has multiple types, and a lot of Pokémon that get various different type coverage are weak to one or more of Scizor’s attacks. You can pick one of many Pokémon for this, but what you should be looking for is a Special Attacker who has a lot of type coverage, and as a bonus maybe has a decent amount of Defense. This leaves you with a few options, but my favorite to go with is Lucario. Lucario has good physical and special attack, meaning that it can go toe-to-toe with Scizor at any opportunity, with great type coverage across both attack types, and resists every attack that Scizor has except for Aerial Ace, which is neutral.

Lucario gets access to various different types with moves such as Psychic, Aura Sphere, Dragon Pulse, and Water Pulse on the Special Attacking side. While Scizor has higher physical defense and you should build with Special Attackers in mind, it’s always nice to have a backup in case that isn’t working for you. Lucario gains access to Earthquake, Shadow Claw, Thunder/Ice Punch and more on the physical side.

Other counters

Other attackers and best counters for Scizor can include Pokémon like Hatterene and Gardevoir, who can take a few hits themselves while dealing some massive damage. These Pokémon are both Psychic/Fairy-type Pokémon who take neutral damage to all of Scizor’s attacks. Gardevoir gains access to a variety of types such as Electric, Fire, Grass, Fighting, and Ghost. Hatterene has a bit less in terms of type variety, but makes up for it with higher Special Attack and defense. Hatterene gets access to Dark, Ghost, Grass, and even Fire type moves if you use the Mirror Herb method to teach it Mystical Fire. These types are obviously also on top of the STAB moves that these Pokémon have at their disposal.
