BioShock Infinite is hitting stores on February 23, 2013. But that may not be the end of it. 2K Games could be planning the next title in the series.
When Ken Levine, Creative Director of Irrational Games, first announced Bioshock Infinite he said:
“When we announced the release date of BioShock Infinite in March, we felt pretty good about the timing. Since then, we’ve uncovered opportunities to make Infinite into something even more extraordinary. Therefore, to give our talented team the time they need to deliver the best Infinite possible, we’ve decided to move the game’s release to February.”
An inside source stated:
“We have had an exceptional reception of BioShock Infinite by fans which has many of us tossing around ideas for the next title in the series,”
Of course this is actually nothing too unusual, in fact it’s fairly common that studios will begin to throw ideas around for a sequel before the current project is fully finished, often this can come from ideas that were cut from the title in development combined with a desire to find a way to implement it next time.
Of course a fourth entry will not enter development for quite a while, and certainly not until Bioshock Infinite is released. But this does at the very least confirm that the franchise is likely to extend beyond a trilogy.
