Co-founder of id, John Romero, has responded to yesterday’s acquisition of id Software by ZeniMax Media rather harshly.Shortly after news of the acquisition became public, Romero Twittered “ZENIMAX??????? Disgusting.” which was quickly followed by a second Twitter, “Fallout 3 bought DOOM. Wow.”Romero was a co-founder of id back in 1991, but left in 1996 to start up Ion Storm, which released seminal titles Anachronox and Deus Ex. It also released Romero’s Daikatana which was not particularly well-received, and once Anachronox was finished, he left the company.Romero followed up his Twitter posts with another two, rather calmer and more apologetic reactions, starting with “i am positive about the Zenimax deal. my initial reaction was harsh. sorry.” The second explains further: “i guess i was shocked and sad to see the id Software of old changed forever today. it’s a new day and a new id.”Last we heard, Romero was working on a currently unannounced MMO title at his development company Slipgate Ironworks.
