Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIV (RTK 14) boasts hundreds of events that you can experience throughout the campaign. Unfortunately, as mentioned in our official review, many of these historical events will tend to focus on the main characters and their respective factions. Still, there are many more events of the “general” and “attainment” variety, ones that tend to apply to all leaders. Here’s our mini-guide to unlock Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIV‘s events.
Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIV: Events guide
Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIV‘s events are conveniently located on the actions panel (Sanction -> Events). The requirements/event triggers and results are also listed.
Historical Events
There are 58 of these in Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIV and they tend to follow a chronological order. The first one to occur is the “Peach Garden Oath” once you play the Yellow Turban Rebellion scenario as any lord. Some of the more notable ones include:
- “The Love Triangle Plot” – This event has multiple parts that take place after a number of turns. Dong Zhuo should have Lu Bu, Diaochan, and Wang Yun in his faction. Changan and the Han Emperor should still be under his control. At the very end of this event chain, Lu Bu assassinates Dong Zhuo but the mighty warrior also exiled by the remaining followers.
- “The Death of Sun Ce” – This event requires Sun Ce to control Lujiang, Jianye, Wu, Huiji, and Chaisang. A few turns after 200 CE, Sun Ce will die and Sun Quan will inherit his brother’s territories in the Southlands.
- “The Three Visits” – This multi-stage event requires that Liu Bei has no more than two cities (and one of those must be Xinye). Try to survive Cao Cao’s onslaught for several turns until Zhuge Liang is recruited.
- “The Wei Emperor” – In order to get this, Cao Cao has to be dead already and his faction must be ruled by a relative (it doesn’t have to be Cao Pi). Once you attain King rank and have more than 12 cities (including Ye, Xuchang, Luoyang, and Changan), you’ll declare yourself emperor, ending the Han Dynasty forever.
General Events
Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIV has a whopping 159 of these. Unfortunately, the vast majority are simply about improving your cities. There are a handful of noteworthy examples such as volunteer soldiers joining your capital, building the Bronze Sparrow Palace (if you reach the rank of Duke and control Ye), and discovering Hua Tuo via the search command and having him cure your officers of injuries and illnesses.
Attainment Events
23 out of 29 events listed here are about fully conquering a specific province in Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIV. The remaining events are akin to challenges such as Gongsun Zan defeating Yuan Shao or Ma Chao defeating Cao Cao. There are no specific requirements other than playing as that ruler and defeating your rival’s faction.
Completing attainment events will grant you doctrine experience, letting you add more administrative policies. We tackle this mechanic in our empire management guide.
Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIV is available via Steam. For more information, check out our guides and features hub.
