Publisher Nacon has wrapped up its showcase, bringing plenty of new game trailers to peruse. Among the list of possible games, I was most interested in finding more about the upcoming RoboCop: Rogue City. Teased one year ago, not much was known about the game, outside of the fact it was under development by the former Terminator: Resistance team. Today, we at last got a gameplay trailer for RoboCop: Rogue City, along with a release window.
RoboCop: Rogue City was scheduled for 2023, and now we know what month. The game will bust down the doors on PC in June of 2023. A more precise date wasn’t revealed just yet, but there’s still plenty of time left. Developer Teyon is plugging away at the game, which looks to charge players to clean up the mean streets of the near-future Detroit. Best of luck.
The gameplay trailer for RoboCop: Rogue City sets up the action and world. Taking on a first-person perspective, you play as RoboCop as he takes on various Detroit gangs and other criminals. It should follow along the same plotlines as the films, in which a desperate city resurrects the fallen officer Alex Murphy as a nearly unstoppable killing machine.
Dead or alive
In terms of gameplay, RoboCop: Rogue City looks pretty solid — even if the color palette is a bit too in love with the color gray. Detroit at night looks dark and dangerous, sporting a lot of impressive lighting and fine detail. There are also industrial areas, because of course there are. Fleshy bad guys also don’t seem to be the only targets. We see a brief fight with the ED-209 robot, showcasing the ability to use environmental hazards to deal some damage.
For the most part, the game looks good, save for some issues. RoboCop: Rogue City is still rather early in development and is lacking a lot of facial animations. RoboCop looks like he’s picking up and hurling mall mannequins. Beyond that, I also have to ask why RoboCop’s iconic pistol sounds like a generic rifle. If you’re going to make a game of one of the most famous ’80s action movies, getting the audio right is a must.
RoboCop: Rogue City will release for PC in June 2023.
