What’s a Robin without a Batman? Nightcrawler, apparently. The latest gameplay trailer for Gotham Knights is live, showcasing Robin along with his bo staff and teleportation tech. Yes, our Boy Wonder is using not just tools but brains when entering a fight. The trailer shows just what Robin is capable of, and by that I mean dishing out the pain.
Robin, aka Tim Drake, is one of the four playable characters coming to Gotham Knight. In the story, Batman is dead (uh huh), and a new threat has arrived in the form of the Court of Owls. Now, without the Caped Crusader leading the charge, the Bat Family — Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl, and Red Hood — team up to save the city. For Robin in particular, his gameplay trailer shows that he’s more than just a sidekick.
Robin uses his wits and gadgets to become a highly capable combatant. Using a grappling hook from the air allows him to zip down on unsuspecting enemies with a swift boot kick. In the trailer, we see him use a slingshot to launch a flashbang when surrounded. His quarterstaff can collapse during combat, leaving him more options. He can also drop a hologram, which distracts and confuses enemies.
Bamf!
An interesting reveal in the gameplay trailer is Robin’s teleportation tech. Like with Red Hood’s “Mystical Leap,” developer Warner Bros. Games Montreal has introduced another unexpected feature for one of its heroes. Using the “Justice League satellite,” Robin can now close medium to long distances by teleporting around an arena. You can see how it activates in the trailer, giving you a moveable target icon from which Robin will reappear to deliver some street justice.
“Robin can zap himself across the battlefield, utilizing speed and surprise to his advantage in a fight,” reads his description in the press release. “What he lacks in experience, he makes up for in natural intelligence, with detective skills that are on par with, if not even better than, Batman himself. Robin deeply believes that Gotham City needs a Batman and aspires to one day take up the mantle himself. And when the time comes, he will be ready.”
Gotham Knights will bamf onto PC when it launches on October 25.
