Rise of the Ronin has a romance system where you can take your relationship with certain characters to the next level, but you’ll need to accomplish a few things first.
In addition to raising your bond level with your favorite character, there are other prerequisites that must be met to begin a romance in Rise of the Ronin.
How to Romance Characters in Rise of the Ronin
To romance characters in Rise of the Ronin, you must raise your Favor with them to the maximum level. Raising Favor can be accomplished in multiple ways, but the best way to deepen your bond with someone is to give them gifts that they like. Gifts can only be given occasionally, so make sure you’re giving them their favorite things and not random items.
Major characters also have side quests that you can complete to raise their Favor significantly. You can see these on the map and in your quest log. If a mission has a character’s face picture next to it, then that quest will increase your Favor with that person upon completion. Not every Rise of the Ronin character has a questline associated with them, however, so make sure to speak to your romantic target as often as possible to gain Favor with dialogue options and choices.
Once you’ve reached maximum Favor with someone, you will unlock a special dialogue option with them that will allow you to develop a Veiled Vow, which is Rise of the Ronin’s version of a romantic relationship. Depending on the character, you’ll need to be pretty far in the story before the option will show up even if you have maximum Favor with them.
All Romance Options in Rise of the Ronin
Not every character in Rise of the Ronin can be romanced. Dozens of allies can be recruited throughout the main story, but only the main cast of characters is eligible for a Veiled Vow.
- Ryoma Sakamoto

You can romance anyone regardless of your character’s gender (since you can change your gender and appearance at any time in Rise of the Ronin), and you can even form Veiled Vows with multiple people without any consequences. There are a few exceptions to this rule, however, as some characters like Ine Kusumoto will get upset if you pursue multiple romantic partners.
