Sir? Excuse me? You seem to have something stuck to your foot there.

Terrible things have befallen Earth, so the only obvious solution is to pair off in teams of super-powered weirdos and fight until everything is better again. Look, fighting game plots never really make a whole lot of sense, and Namco’s newly announced Rise of Incarnates is no different. Where it is different is a focus on 2v2, apparent PC exclusivity and its free-to-playness.

That’s kind of an unusual combination of factors, if nothing else.

It’s from the “creators of Tekken and SoulCalibur” who you’d imagine would know how to put together a game like this, and is said to have “ground-breaking 2 vs. 2 gameplay, a multitude of characters and roles, and battlegrounds throughout shattered yet accurately rendered real-world cityscapes.” I think when it says ground-breaking there it means literally including characters in Rise of Incarnates who can break the ground with their abilities.

If that little summary sounds interesting, and you like the look of the trailer below, you can sign up for alpha access (and read more about this strange game) at the official page.

Rise of Incarnates is due in the latter half of 2014. Let’s hope it doesn’t share the same fate of the other infamous “Rise of” fighting title, Rise of the Robots.
