To save the ghost doggies!

Upon exploring the Graveyard in the Lower City in Baldur’s Gate 3, you’ve probably found a locked door to Durinbold Mausoleum. Upon breaking and entering, you can eventually find three dogs buried in sarcophagi, alongside their owner Houndmaster Pol. If you’re a dog lover like I am, you’re probably wondering if there’s a way to bring them back to life. Below, I’ll answer whether or not you can revive the dogs at Durinbold Mausoleum in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Sadly, you cannot revive the Durinbold Mausoleum dogs in Baldur’s Gate 3. Although there are spells like Revivify that can bring back the dead, they have their limits. As soon as you make a Strength check to open any of the sarcophagi, combat will ensue. Ghost forms of the dogs and their master will begin their attack.

If you’re wondering where to find this location, head to the Graveyard in the northern part of the Lower City. There, you’ll find a locked entrance to Durinbold Mausoleum. Crack it open, and inside you’ll find the four sarcophagi.

Attempting to loot the resting spots will anger Zina, Rocky, Gordis, and their master. It’s a pretty easy fight, but there’s one sad part of it. If you decide to kill Houndmaster Pol before his dogs, all three dogs will head to their master’s remains and sacrifice themselves. I felt terrible for hurting the ghost dogs during the fight and choosing to kill their master made it even more of a bummer.

Once combat completes, you’re free to loot their belongings. Sadly, you cannot cast Revivify to bring them back. I even tried the Speak with Dead spell, but it doesn’t work on Beasts. At least you’re free to take the bodies for any necromantic zombie spells.
