Revavroom weaknesses and best counters in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet
Given its existence as a sentient engine, you might expect Revavroom to be a Ghost type like many other similarly themed Pokémon. However, unlike other similar Pokémon, Revavroom isn’t possessed but rather just a regular Pokémon that happens to resemble an engine. This results in it being a Steel- and Poison-type Pokémon, referencing the emissions given off by vehicles.
Revavroom has a Base Stat total of 500. This includes a strong 119 Base Attack alongside an above-average 90 Base Speed and 90 Base Defense. In a vacuum, its stats don’t seem overly impressive, but Revavroom gets access to a very special setup move. It is one of just seven Pokémon to learn Shift Gear, and one of just three available in Generation Nine.
When used in battle, Shift Gear boosts a Pokémon’s Speed by two stages and Attack by one stage. After just one Shift Gear, Revavroom becomes a monster that can sweep the strongest teams in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Nothing can out-speed a Revavroom once it gets set up and gains access to powerful STAB moves like Gunk Shot and Spin Out.
By far Revavroom’s biggest weakness in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is that it requires setup moves to be threatening. Its general lack of bulk means that Revavroom is not tanky. Due to this, a good strategy is to take it out before it gets set up. It’s best to use Ground-type moves as Revavroom is 4x weak to those, although Fire-type moves will work too. If your team doesn’t have access to either of these, Revavroom’s 67 Base Special Defense leaves it vulnerable to special attackers like Gholdengo and Wash Rotom.
Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet can be purchased on the Nintendo Store.
