There’s no denying that the original Company of Heroes is a very fine RTS game. It’s possibly still the best RTS.
Given that quality, the expectations for Company of Heroes 2 are through the roof. Essentially, if the second game isn’t incredible on pretty much every level, fans of the original (and those that have only heard about how good that game is) will be disappointed.
That’s an issue that Company of Heroes 2 game director Quinn Duffy is well aware of, acknowledging that Company of Heroes 2 must meet a “very high bar”.
“Every night I worry about that,” Duffy told IncGamers. “It’s not like I wake up in a cold sweat, but it is a concern. We do have a very high bar to meet.”
However, Duffy seems confident that Company of Heroes 2 will add enough to satisfy the player.
“I worked on the original from the beginning so I understand the intricacies of it, but a lot of what we’re doing with Company of Heroes 2 is stuff that I wish could have been in the original,” Duffy continued. “So, I think it’s adding a lot of neat things. Each idea might not seem that big but when you see them all in action together I think it’s going to play in a fresh new way.”
Company of Heroes 2 is due for a 2013 release.
