Redfall and Starfield have both been delayed to the first half of 2023, Bethesda confirmed today via a tweet. The post mentions that the publisher wants to “ensure you receive the best, most polished versions of them.” Redfall was originally headed for a September release, while Starfield was set to come out on November 11.
Delays aren’t too surprising anymore in game development. Over the past few years, we’ve seen plenty of titles get pushed back a few months later down the line. While it’s always disappointing to see, this is something that happens to a lot of titles these days. And considering Bethesda’s track record for releasing buggy titles, perhaps it’s for the best.
In the message, Bethesda promised that there will be more new soon. A “first deep dive into the gameplay” is in the works. Hopefully that means we’ll see the games in action during the summer.
A new countdown to launch begins
Redfall is the newest title in development by Arkane Austin. It’s an open-world, co-op, first-person shooter where players must fight against a legion of vampires. It’s breaking plenty of new ground for the studio, with the inclusion of online multiplayer and an all-new setting. To be honest, it’s not entirely surprising to see Redfall get hit with a delay alongside Starfield. After all, Arkane is trying out lots of new things here. Hopefully, it’s able to come together by the title’s new release date.
And then there’s Starfield, Bethesda Game Studio’s next open-world RPG. The delay is surprising if only to see the developer ditch the ’11/11/22′ release date. We knew there were some concerns after a former Bethesda staffer told users on ResetEra about some of the problems the game had. There was also talk about a Starfield beta launching sometime in the summer. This may still happen, since the delay could give Bethesda the necessary time to make changes based on player feedback. Whether that actually happens is something we may see a few months from now.

The delay for Redfall and Starfield should hopefully give the developers enough time to further polish them. This especially applies to Bethesda Game Studios, as its titles tend to have rough starts. We don’t have the new dates for these titles just yet. Hopefully, the wait won’t be too much longer.
