For years, Rebellion has been known for its great video games, like the Sniper Elite series. But now it’s literally about to roll the dice in a new category — board games! The company announced today that it’s opening Rebellion Unplugged, which will focus on the board game market. With it, it hopes to produce games based on its franchises, as well as potential original games. It already has several in the works.
Does this mean Sniper Elite will get the board game treatment?
Actually, yes! The first game out of Rebellion Unplugged will be Sniper Elite the Board Game, bringing its tactical shooter skills to a new format.
The division has Duncan Molloy as a leader. He previously worked with Osprey Games as founder and creative lead. And with his expertise, Rebellion is confident he’ll give Unplugged just the boost it needs across a “diverse and extensive” collection of properties.
Jason Kingsley OBE, CEO of Rebellion, noted he’s “absolutely delighted” with the opening of the new division. He leans on his own expertise from board games (more than 25 years’ worth) and how the “many great games” the company produces will play a part. Along with “comic book heroes and universes” available in their properties, “it’s going to be a lot of fun.”
The official website has all the details in terms of what to expect.
But based on the image above, Sniper Elite the Board Game is the focus at the moment. The game will make its debut next month during the PAX Unplugged show. Following that, a Kickstarter will take place early next year, with more games to come in 2020.
Are you excited to give Sniper Elite a, ahem, shot on the board game front? What other games would you want to see from Rebellion Unplugged? A Zombie Army game wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world, guys.
