The upcoming racing-sim from Slightly Mad Studios Project CARS 2 just got a new car confirmed. Players will be able to put the pedal to the metal in the Dallara DW12/IR-12 ‘Indycar’.
This vehicle is known for its incredible speed and responsiveness and is used in the Indycar circuit. Bringing it over to the virtual world in Project CARS 2 required some tweaking. Slightly Mad conducted an interview with Schmidt Peterson Motorsports’ assistant race engineer Kenny Krajnik, who works with the Indy 500.
Here’s what he had to say about SMS’ virtual iteration of the racecar:
“I would say from an engineering standpoint that it’s very representative. In my opinion, it’s a very good model,” said Krajnik. “For example, it takes a while for the tyres to come up to temperature, it takes a while for the brakes to come up to temperature. And just some of the adjustments that we made to the tyre model specifically, it really improved the fidelity of the model, and even James [Hinchcliffe] himself said that after those adjustments were made, the car responded like the actual IR-12.”
Sounds like the team got it just right!
Project CARS 2 will be speeding onto PS4, Xbox One and PC later this year. Check out some screenshots of the Indycar:
