There's a few steps to get to that point, though.

How to pickpocket in Star Ocean The Second Story R

As soon as you have the Pickpocketing specialty, you can pickpocket every single NPC that you walk up to in Star Ocean The Second Story R, which is just one of the many systems that the specialty system will unlock for you. Let’s go over how you can get to that point, and some things that you’ll need to keep in mind while pickpocketing.

First off, how do you even get the ability to pickpocket in Star Ocean The Second Story R? Well, you’re going to need to unlock the specialty to do so. Luckily, we have a guide on how you can unlock specialties to help you get started. Once you unlock the Pickpocket specialty, you might still not be able to pickpocket straight away, as there are a couple of extra pieces of information you might need to know to get started.

Necessary requirements

So the first thing outside of knowing the Pickpocket specialty in Star Ocean The Second Story R is that you’re going to need one of two specific items to be able to do so. These are the Thief’s Glove and the Magician’s Glove, once again, we have a guide on how to obtain these items. You can get the Thief’s Glove as soon as you leave Krosse City at the beginning of the game, so as long as you have the money to get it, you can get this pickpocket trick pretty early.

The other thing you’re going to need to be able to successfully pickpocket in Star Ocean The Second Story R is the Talent Nimble Fingers. From my experience, not having this Talent means you simply have a 0% chance of being able to pickpocket. There are a couple of ways to be able to get this Talent, you can actually start the game with it as far as I’m aware, but you can also get it from using specialties. For my Claude who didn’t have it, I used the crafting specialty a few times and I was able to teach Claude Nimble Fingers.

Now you can pickpocket everyone! But be warned…

Once you have all of these, you should be able to pickpocket every NPC in Star Ocean The Second Story R, including your party members in PA mode! The only issue with this is that pickpocketing lowers friendship with the group. From my own research, I can’t find a way to stop this from happening, but I’ve also seen that you can get books to raise friendship from the super specialty Publication. These books can also lower friendship if you need to do that.
