PSA: Release the pixie in the Moonlantern in Baldur’s Gate 3

I promise you it's worth it.

As someone who is guilty of not realizing this myself, this is a PSA to all Baldur’s Gate 3 fans to release the pixie inside the Moonlantern.

One of the choices you have during Act 2 after finding a Moonlantern is to either free the trapped pixie, or keep her inside to help against the Shadow Curse. This one Reddit user realized just how wrong they were for keeping her trapped.

Baldur’s Gate 3 players realize you should free the pixie inside the Moonlantern

Never did I believe that freeing this pixie would result in me being able to survive the Shadow Curse more efficiently than ever. But this one Reddit user on the Baldur’s Gate 3 subreddit also didn’t think to release the pixie in the Moonlantern until recently.

After their fourth playthrough, they just figured out that releasing the pixie ends up allowing you to gain a blessing from her that prevents you from being affected by the Shadow Curse. If only I’d chosen the nicer option and done that out of the goodness of my heart would I have realized this too.

At the end, Reddit user ‘Rarely-Posting’ said that Larian Studios played their greed like a fiddle, and many replies agreed. Although you can hold the Moonlantern with the pixie inside for safety, it’s annoying having one party member hold it all the time, forcing everyone else to crowd around it.

One reply said that an Insight check revealed that pixies like to play tricks, leading them to keep her trapped. Although this was probably true, it’s interesting to see a choice that probably no one chose reward you with something incredible.

What’s even wilder is the fact that releasing this pixie ends up earning you positive consequences in Act 3 at the printing press. This happens during the “Stop the Presses” quest, which has nothing to do with the pixie initially, but ends up being affected by your choice. I guess your choices really do matter, even in the smallest cases!

Now that you understand you should release the pixie from the Moonlantern in Baldur’s Gate 3, we have another PSA on remembering to use your Soul Coins.
