Illfonic’s follow-up to Friday the 13th, Predator: Hunting Grounds, launched on PC via the Epic Games Store earlier this year. Hunting Grounds took the Predator license and turned into an asymmetric multiplayer game. In matches, its Predator vs prey, who are made up of a 4-person fireteam. Since the game’s rocky launch, Illfonic has updated the game each month with updates, patches and paid DLC. Another big one, update 2.0, launches in a few days on August 21 and brings cross-play along for the ride.
The update will contain some quality of life bug fixes and the highly requested cross-play mode with friends across PC and PS4. Initially, Illfonic wanted cross-play to be live at launch, but ultimately it wasn’t ready and needed to be pushed due to technical issues. This isn’t entirely surprising, as Friday the 13th did, and still does, contain a bunch of technical glitches.
At least this one isn’t tied up in a messy legal battle though, like Friday the 13th, so Predator: Hunting Grounds can and will get fresh new content. With update 2.0, The Classic Combistick and Wrist Launcher from the City Hunter content is now unlockable for everyone. Previously, DLC owners got early access to these items in a paid DLC pack. There’s also a large Fireteam Supply Drop coming, including the OWLF Assault Rifle, Anti-Cloaking Grenade, UAV Scanner, and the Self Revive Syrette. Finally, a Field Locker Update brings three new Predator Masks, a new Fireteam Ballistic Mask, and other new tints and shaders.
Illfonic has also shed light on the future of Predator: Hunting Grounds. A brand new map and game mode will release with the September update, which doesn’t have a date just yet. The new map and mode will be part of a the free update and won’t require paid DLC to play. For now though, update 2.0 drops on August 21.
