Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid is one of the best “phoenix rising from the ashes” games of this generation. When the game originally launched, it was a complete mess. It was unfinished, buggy, and you couldn’t even block in the air in the game’s original launch version. But, just like the similarly troubled Street Fighter V, Battle for the Grid put its nose to the grindstone and eventually became one of the best fighting games of this generation.
Each new season brought with it drastic changes that improved the gameplay and quality of life by leaps and bounds. Most importantly though, it brought what every fighting game fan always wants, more characters. The most current season, Season 3, added a lot of changes to the core gameplay, as well as two new characters.
The first was Robert “RJ” James, the Wolf Ranger from Power Rangers Jungle Fury. In terms of fighting style, he plays like a combination of Adon and Sagat from Street Fighter. Just last week, we got Lauren Shiba who is the second Red Ranger for Power Rangers Super Samurai. She is a very fun character that is part Mai Shiranui from The King of Fighters, and Hayato from Marvel vs. Capcom 2.

I’m Scorpina, and I’m your worst nightmare
The third character for the season has been teased since RJ’s first trailer. Any Power Rangers fan worth their salt could tell immediately by the silhouette that it was none other than Scorpina, which today’s new trailer confirms. Scorpina is one of the most beloved female villains in the series that came from the original Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers. The look of Scorpina is heavily inspired by the BOOM! Studios Power Rangers comic book series that Battle for the Grid takes a lot of its inspiration from. She is also heavily tied into the current ongoing story in the comic series, so she makes a great pick for the game right now.
We don’t get to see any of her gameplay, but we know that she will drop this year on December 8. This follows the usual two to three-month timetable for new characters in Battle for the Grid. It is unknown if a fourth season is in the works, but I think it is pretty likely considering how well the game has been doing. While we still have to wait for Scorpina, Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid is available right now on Steam and everything for the game is on sale from now until September 29.
