Screenshots from Portal 2’s forthcoming free level creator make it look nice and simple.
Valve announced its intent to release the editor in a fresh update to the game sometime next year, and has now shared a couple of screenshots on the game’s official blog (recreated across and below).
As you can tell, it looks like a case of slotting bits and pieces into the scenery. Hopefully this’ll allow people with good ideas to quickly put them into action.
Here’s the word from Valve: “The simplified puzzle creator will let players easily carve out their creations in a straightforward but powerful way. They’ll then be able to immediately upload those levels to their Steam Cloud and share them with other players online.”
A dedicated community site for hosting and rating the user-created levels is also promised.
The more complex ‘Authoring Tools’ (already released for Portal 2) will surely still be around, but this new creator should make the design of puzzles rather more accessible.
