In an attempt to liven up the competitive scene, developer Game Freak added a variety of new held items to Scarlet and Violet. How to get the Covert Cloak in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

The Covert Cloak is a new held item that has incredible potential. When held by a Pokémon, it protects them from the additional effects of any damaging moves. For example, Nuzzle is an electric type move with 20 base power that also causes paralysis. However, if a Pokémon holding a Covert Cloak gets hit by Nuzzle, they won’t get paralyzed.

To get a Covert Cloak in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet you need to purchase one from the Delibird Presents shop in Levincia. The Levincia branch of Delibird Presents can be found in the northern section of the city close to the Pokémon Center. A Covert Cloak will set you back $20,000, and you can buy as many as you like.

The Covert Cloak is situational but, if used correctly, it can make a big difference. A common use of the Covert Cloak is to have your lead Pokémon hold it. This is because in competitive battling it’s common for lead Pokémon to open with Fake Out, which always flinches, resulting in a free turn of damage. Against a Covert Cloak, though, the additional flinch effect is nullified, making it a hard counter.

It’s also good to use a Covert Cloak for Pokémon that can’t afford to have their stats lowered. Some of the most used damaging moves in competitive battling have additional effects that lower stats. For instance, Icy Wind always lowers the speed of any Pokémon it hits. For speed-dependent Pokémon, this can ruin them, but a Covert Cloak would protect them from this debuff.

Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet can be purchased on the Nintendo Store.
