Froakie is a fan-favorite starter that fans of all Pokémon generations have come to love. Unfortunately, the adorable ninja frog wasn’t available in Generation Eight or at the start of Generation Nine, but that recently changed. With the addition of the Greninja Tera Raid, players can now get access to their very own Froakie. However, it’s how to get a shiny Froakie in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet that fans really want to know.

How to get a shiny Froakie in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet
If you were hoping to skip the leveling process and get a shiny Greninja from the Tera Raid, that isn’t possible. The Greninja Tera Raid is shiny locked, meaning that no matter how many times you restart the raid, Greninja will never be shiny. Also, since the only way to encounter a Greninja is through the raid, you cannot encounter a shiny Froakie in the wild.
Thankfully, these limitations don’t mean that it’s impossible to get a shiny Froakie in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. You can get a shiny Froakie by breeding a Greninja that you have captured through a Tera Raid. Alternatively, you can trade another player for a spare Froakie or Greninja and use that for breeding instead.
To breed a Froakie in Scarlet and Violet you need your party to consist of either a Froakie, Frogadier, or Greninja and a Ditto. Then eat any sandwich that provides the Egg Power buff and set up a picnic. Wait for a few minutes and then check the egg basket. Collect whatever eggs are in the basket and repeat.
Once you have a lot of eggs, it’s time to hatch them. The fastest method to hatch eggs is to have one lead Pokémon with either Flame Body, Magma Armor, or Steam Engine as their ability. The remaining five party slots should all be filled with Froakie eggs. Ride around on your Koraidon or Miraidon until the eggs hatch and see if you got lucky. The odds of getting a shiny Froakie from an egg in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are 1 in 4096. This can be reduced to 1 in 512 by using the Masuda Method and owning a Shiny Charm.
Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet can be purchased on the Nintendo Store.
