Pokemon GO: Best teams for Great League

Welcome to the big leagues.

The Great League is an exciting limited-time event in Pokemon GO that pits players against each other in furious PvP battles. Great League matches are unique as they have a CP restriction that limits the power of competing Pokemon. Every Pokemon in the event is limited to just 1500CP, which means you’ll see a huge variety of teams in the competition. That said, we all know Pokemon aren’t created equally, and the higher you climb the ranks, you’ll start to see a meta forming. With this in mind, let me show you the best teams for the Great League in Pokemon GO.

Pokemon GO: Best teams for Great League

As there’s a human element in PvP, knowing the best teams is one thing, but piloting them is quite another. It will take time to learn when to swap Pokemon in battle. Eventually, when your opponent brings out a Medicham, for example, you’ll know that it’s an excellent Fighting type and probably knows Psychic to crush other fighters. Knowing details like this makes a great Trainer, but persevere, and I know you can do it! From my research, these are the best Great League Teams. I’ve used data from multiple sources, including PvPoke.com, an open-source Pokemon GO PvP simulator.

Great League Teams

Team 1

Medicham
Fast Move: Counter
Charged Moves: Ice Punch, Psychic

Diggersby
Fast Move: Mud Shot
Charged Moves: Scorching Sands, Hyper Beam

Shadow Alolan Sandslash
Fast Move: Shadow Claw
Charged Moves: Drill Run, Ice Punch

I won’t explain the other team compositions on this list, but this is the reasoning behind these picks. Keep things like this in mind to curate your own squads.

Medicham is a dangerous Fighting-type Pokemon that keeps Normal types in check but also knows Psychic to threaten other Fighting types. Medicham is very popular in Great League and counters itself quite nicely.

Diggersby may not look like much, but it is an extremely bulky Pokemon that can withstand a lot of punishment. Bulky Pokemon take such a long time to wear down; they are a nightmare to deal with, and all that time, your opponent knows they’ll eventually have to deal with Hyper Beam.

Alolan Sandslash is super strong against most top-tier Pokemon and is only really scared of Fire types, as Medicham should take care of any Fighting threats.

Team 2

Medicham
Fast Move: Counter
Charged Moves: Psychic, Ice Punch

Carbink
Fast Move: Rock Throw
Charged Moves: Rock Slide, Moon Blast

Gligar
Fast Move: Wing Attack
Charged Moves: Aerial Ace, Dig

Team Three

Gligar
Fast Move: Wing Attack
Charged Moves: Aerial Ace, Dig

Dewgong
Fast Move: Icy Shard
Charged Moves: Icy Wind, Drill Run

Lanturn
Fast Move: Spark
Charged Moves: Surf, Thunderbolt

Team Four

Gligar
Fast Move: Wing Attack
Charged Moves: Dig, Aerial Ace

Lickitung
Fast Move: Lick
Charged Moves: Power Whip, Body Slam

Dewgong
Fast Move: Icy Shard
Charged Moves: Icy Wind, Drill Run

Team Five

Registeel
Fast Move: Lock On
Charged Moves: Focus Blast, Zap Cannon

Pelipper
Fast Move: Wing Attack
Charged Moves: Weather Ball, Hurricane

Medicham
Fast Move: Counter
Charged Moves: Ice Punch, Psychic

These teams have great Coverage, which means they can deal with most meta threats. They also have safe matchups and bulky options, so your teams aren’t fragile. Pokemon GO PvP is simple on the surface, but lurking underneath is a ton of complexity.
