If there’s any developer that’s been heavy in the news as of late, it’s Platinum Games. The company has been hard at work on projects like Babyon’s Fall and Bayonetta 3. However, it’s also been making the rounds with its The Wonderful 101: Remastered Kickstarter, which currently sits at $1.68 million. But apparently, it’s doing something else as well.
Japanese publication Famitsu has revealed that Platinum has a “major” announcement in the works for next week’s February 27 issue. That’s all it would say at the time.
What could Platinum Games have in store?
As far as what the announcement could be, it’s anyone’s guess. On the one hand, the company did recently team up with Tencent to attain funding for self-publishing. The Wonderful 101: Remastered will be the first game to lead that charge.
But then there’s another thing to consider. It’s a “major” announcement, which could mean a bigger franchise is in play. There’s always a possibility that Platinum will team up with a company for something new. For instance, it could partner up with Capcom to bring back its beloved Viewtiful Joe property for some remasters. At the least, something seems to be going on with Okami. Platinum might also work alongside Square Enix on a new NieR game, or a possible return to the original game that inspired it. It could even be a long shot — like the return of the long-lost Scalebound project with help from Microsoft. These are just guesses, but the possibilities are endless.
Platinum Games will be at PAX East next week, where it’ll show off The Wonderful 101: Remastered for the first time. It’ll also host a panel where fans might possibly get a glimpse of what this “major” project is. Whatever the case, there’s excitement in store. We’ll bring you all the details as soon as they’re available.
