Sony Online Entertainment has revealed that it will be announcing the release date of MMO-shooter Planetside 2 at an SOE keynote event tomorrow, 17 October. The event will be broadcast live on Twitch.tv at 7pm PST. We’re told that the game will be released in 2012.
Planetside 2 is currently in beta form, with player feedback going towards changes that will be made to the full game. Writing on the official Planetside 2 forums, SOE president John Smedley says that the biggest of those changes is scrapping Auraxium, which is currently one of the game’s forms of currency.
“After listening to feedback on the forums, this will mean the end of Auraxium as a resource,” said Smedley.
“Keep in mind when we do this (with this next patch), we will be dramatically increasing the speed at which you gain certifications. Something like 4X. Again, folks, we play the game on non-admin accounts. We see the data. We see the issues. We’re fixing them.”
