Uber Entertainment will be moving the Kickstarted Planetary Annihilation out of Early Access and into full, proper release mode on 5 September. Judging by the response from players on the Steam forums, however, the RTS game may not be quite ready.

There’s a thread wondering whether a promised offline mode will be in place for release (the consensus being “probably not”,) as without it even single player skirmishes require an online connection. Not ideal, especially when there are other threads bemoaning the stability of the Planetary Annihilation servers.

Now, obviously a Steam community hub doesn’t hold a monopoly on opinions, but when you have another thread from a “big fan of the game” requesting that it not be released yet, you have to wonder if this is a bit too soon.

The latest official announcement about the game states the following:

The launch edition of the game includes a number of upgrades, including enhancements to both single-player and multiplayer. It will also include two new features: resource-rich gas giants and the “Annihilaser,” a celestial laser of doom that obliterates planets with each tremendous blast

To accompany the news that Planetary Annihilation will release later this week, Uber has released a launch trailer featuring a great many robot death machines blowing things up. Mostly each other.
