Phantom Liberty is the ‘only planned’ Cyberpunk 2077 expansion, says CDPR

One and done.

It’s been a bumpy road for CD Projekt Red and Cyberpunk 2077, but we’re finally learning more about the game’s promised expansion — Phantom Liberty. Granted, we still have to wait until next year to get our next bit of story content for the game. But what about after? Well, as spotted by mp1st, Phantom Liberty may be the only expansion coming to Cyberpunk 2077 in the end.

The revelation comes from an unusual source. Responding to a comment on the Phantom Liberty trailer, the Cyberpunk 2077 account mentioned the expansion is the only major story content in the works.

“Glad to hear we sparked your interest,” the account replied.  “As for the future, Phantom Liberty is the only planned expansion for Cyberpunk 2077.”

It’s probably not the news Cyberpunk fans want to hear, but it does make sense. The game landed with quite an impressive thud, and CDPR spent most of its time trying to fix it. It’s been two years, and things finally look to be mostly in order. Cyberpunk 2077 has received many updates and patches, optimizing the game and sweeping away myriad bugs and glitches. Trying to make story content during all that furor must have been something.

Let’s leave the past in the past

Following the Phantom Liberty expansion, CDPR is moving onto newer things. And by newer, I mean the same things. The next game in The Witcher franchise is in development, and the developer isn’t going to take it lightly. In this return to form, the company plans on making an all-new saga, with “more than one” game in mind — according to a recent earnings call. Once Cyberpunk 2077 is completely done and dusted, CDPR will most likely move all members onto the next Witcher.

Phantom Liberty is still worth looking into if you’re a fan of Cyberpunk 2077. The upcoming expansion takes you back to Night City, introducing you to a new cast of characters and throwing V into the midst of a government conspiracy. Keanu Reeves returns as Johnny Silverhand as well.
