Peter Molyneux to “completely stop talking to the press”

It’s been a tough week for Peter Molyneux and he says it’s time to “retreat”.

GODUS has continued to haunt Peter Molyneux this week following 22Cans admitting the game was unlikely to be feature complete any time soon. The problems were also compounded by Curiosity winner Bryan Henderson when he revealed he’d heard little from 22Cans after he won the cube challenge and was promised a cut of the GODUS profits as a reward. A fact that Molyneux admits was a huge mistake and is now being rectified.

Peter Molyneux has had enough, and in a frank interview with the Guardian this morning he’s decided to “retreat” from the whole situation as it’s getting out of hand.

“The only answer is for me to retreat. I love my games and I love sharing them with people. It’s this amazing incredible thing I get to do with my life, creating ideas and sharing them with people. The problem is, it just hasn’t worked.”

Molyneux is known for his ambitious ideas and claims in the world of videogames and he knows they can’t always be met, but his passion and enthusiasm for games appears to have now got the better of him.

“I truly believe them when I say them, but as you know, sometimes they don’t come to pass. They don’t come to pass because they’re too technically difficult, they don’t come to pass because maybe they don’t fit and people see this as being a promise.”

“People get so frustrated with me, so much so that they’ve threatened me, they’ve threatened my family and it just cannot go on, it really can’t.”

“I love working on games, it is my life. I am so honoured to be a part of the games industry, but I understand that people are sick of hearing my voice and hearing my promises. So I’m going to stop doing press and I’m going to stop talking about games completely. And actually I’m only giving you this interview now in answer to this terrible and awful, emotional time over the last three days. I think honestly the only answer to this is for me to completely stop talking to the press.”

“I think people are just sick of hearing from me. They’ve been sick of hearing from me for so many years now. You know, we’re done.”

Molyneux is now stuck between a rock and a hard place. 22Cans are still developing GODUS alongside their other title The Trail and will eventually need some positive exposure. When 22Cans revealed The Trail it set alarm bells ringing with GODUS backers who were concerned at the lack of progress, and Molyneux has already admitted that revealing The Trail so early was a “mistake”.

Molyneux may not want to talk to the press now but he won’t be able to “retreat” for too long. Hopefully once all this dies down they’ll have some positive news and GODUS may actually be a PC game worthy of attention.
