Both your party members and enemy Shadows can be affected by Status Ailments, so let’s go over how seriously they mess with you.

All Status Ailments and what they do in Persona 3 Reload

Status Ailments are unique conditions you or enemies can have during combat that affect how you perform. They’ll nearly all last a few turns, and different types of consumables and skills can cure you of them. On the flipside, some consumables and skills can inflict Status Ailments onto enemies.

AilmentEffect
CharmForces affected target to attack their allies or heal their enemies.
DistressLowers the target’s DEF, increases the chance of getting hit with a Crit, and increases the chance of insta-kill spells to succeed.
DizzyForces target to lose their turn and can lead to a “one more”.
DownTarget falls prone after being hit by their weakness and gives the attacker a “one more”.
FearTarget is unable to take an action during their turn, or can flee from battle. Is also more likely to take a Crit.
FreezeRenders target unable to move and forces them to lose their turn. Is also more likely to take a Crit.
PanicTarget is unable to use their Persona or any Magical attacks. They can still use Physical attacks or use consumables to heal.
PoisonAfter the target’s turn, they take a small amount of damage. Will only recover through being cured.
RageForces target to ignore commands and they’ll automatically attack in battle. While their ATK is increased, their DEF and Accuracy are lowered.
ShockRenders target stunned and unable to move while also taking Electric damage on their turn. It’s a guaranteed Crit if you hit this target.

Once you reach around floor 100 in Persona 3 Reload, you’ll be introduced to certain Status Ailments that enemy Shadows can have out of combat.

Picking a fight with these enemies is typically always a plus for you since they’re not like your usual Shadow. Some will be enraged before the battle even begins, while others are Dizzy, which leaves them at a disadvantage.
