Welcome back supporters. You have probably been wondering what happened to February’s update but there are a number of reasons we missed last month.
For the past month, I have been really digging deep into the site code looking at areas where we can improve the site for both SEO and the user experience. At the end of January Google introduced their security check measure on all sites which meant we had to migrate from http to https to comply with the new standards. Now you will notice in the address bar the site being listed as secure which means transmitted data should be secure. This was quite a large job and prompted further investigations into site code. It opened a can of worms. Some of the site code needed to be tidied up.
Having now almost completed all that work, I decided to add in the user rating system on reviews. Now readers can join in when rating games so review pages now show our rating along with a user rating.
Last week we also introduced a back-end system to measure the popularity of the podcast. The podcast is always fun to record but it’s only really worth doing if enough people are tuning in so we’ll be keeping an eye on these numbers.
Without marketing budgets to increase out social reach we rely entirely on the community to tell others about the site. This means that reaching out to new readers is incredibly hard and growth is slower. Without growth, it’s impossible to crank out more content. It’s a nasty catch 22 situation. So again, we need everyone’s help to spread the word.
I’ll keep this update short but please do let us know how we are doing in the comments and don’t forget to tell us about stuff you want to see on the site.
