PC Gamers Struck With BioShock 2 Woes

This article is over 14 years old and may contain outdated information

Trouble has erupted on the 2K forums over issues with BioShock 2 PC.Shacknews spotted the forum threads, which note that the PC version of BioShock 2 does not support gamepads, and that the same widescreen issues as the first game had are back. Many users are surprised to see the widescreen issues back again, considering the furore that erupted over this when the first game was released, which led to the release of a patch to fix the problem. 2K community manager 2K Elizabeth has since acknowledged the issue: “Yes, there’s a problem, yes, a fix is on the way, yes the view will expand horizontally for you widescreen gamers.”The lack of gamepad support, according to 2K Elizabeth, was “not a decision that we made lightly.” It’s worth noting that this has been known about for some time, and was mentioned recently in a Q&A on the Cult of Rapture website.”The decision was made early on not to support controllers at all in order to ensure that we got the mouse and keyboard control absolutely right,” goes the Q&A. “This of course required a redesign of large parts of the UI and the player HUD. For example, we removed the Weapons and Plasmid Selection Radials in favor of a custom created Weapons Selection Strip which more accurately reflects the keyboard layout.”If our memories are correct, though, BioShock on PC supported both, and had UIs for both. We’ve contacted 2K for comment, and we’ll let you know if we hear back. It’s a shame, as we enjoyed BioShock 2, faulting it largely for lacking the impact that the first game had.
