Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous Nahyndrian Crystals guide (Ascension secret ending)
As mentioned above, shooting a Demon Lord with a Midnight Bolt is necessary if you want to get Nahyndrian Crystals for the Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous secret ending. Since there are only a limited number of Midnight Bolts in the game, you have to make sure that you’re hitting the necessary targets, not wasting the special ammo on random mobs.
In most cases, all you need to do is equip a Midnight Bolt in an archer-type character’s inventory, then use it in specific fights (mentioned below). Once the encounter is cleared, you should see a glowing crystal that can be picked up. Alternatively, this action might be affected by a dialogue response.
Act 1: Kenabres Market Square – Deskari and the Purple Stone Knife
Return to the festival grounds where Deskari showed up during the prologue. To the left is a Midnight Bolt (assuming you used the crossbow at the start of the game). At the opposite side of the square is a Purple Stone Knife, which gives you a vision of the Aeon Mythic Path. Do not lose or sell this item. Just keep it in your character’s alternate weapon slots to be safe.
Later in Act 4, you’ll talk to the Storyteller in the Mage Tower. If you tell him about the knife, he’ll reveal that it’s a Nahyndrian Crystal. Likewise, Shamira of the Ardent Dream will ask about your findings. Do not mention the knife at all. Then, think to yourself regarding the fact that Nahyndrian Crystals are formed from the blood of Demon Lords.
Act 4: Colphyr Mines – Baphomet
Shoot Baphomet with a Midnight Bolt, then defeat him. Nocticula will appear, and she’ll show interest in the crystal. Take it for yourself.
Act 5: Nameless Ruins/Enigma – Areshkagal
This is Nenio’s companion quest (More Than Nothing). It requires you to collect the four Nameless Ruins Masks so you can enter the dungeon proper and solve the Enigma puzzles. Upon solving the last puzzle in the large, circular platform, you’ll battle a hologram of Areshkagal. Then, a portal will open taking you to the top of the pyramid.
After talking to Areshkagal, a fight ensues. Use the Midnight Bolt now since this is the Demon Lord’s true form. Shortly thereafter, he’ll summon clones. The “real” target is the flaming one, though you don’t need to use another Midnight Bolt if you already hit him during the first phase of the battle. Anyway, you should see the crystal on the ground.
Act 5: Iz – Deskari
You’ll fight Deskari again when you reach Iz. After the fight, a dialogue box will appear. Choose to pick up the crystal of Deskari’s blood.
Likewise, do note that Deskari has to be defeated here. You’ll know you did it correctly if your character blasts him and he ends up falling down the chasm, as opposed to flying down.
Act 5: Demon or Trickster only – Nocticula
If you chose the Demon or Trickster Mythic Path, you’ll have a chance to take out Nocticula at the conclusion of your Mythic Quest arc. Because Nocticula is a Demon Lord, the Midnight Bolt works on her. You can watch the Demon version of the boss fight in the video below from YouTuber CRPG Bro:
Act 5: Treasure of the Midnight Isles DLC – Nahyndri
Another Fresh Nahyndrian Crystal can be yours in Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, but only if you own the Treasure of the Midnight Isles DLC. You’ll have to complete all island chains and face off against Nahyndri, who can be shot with a Midnight Bolt. You can watch the boss fight in the video below from YouTuber CRPG Bro:
Finale: Threshold – Deskari and Baphomet
Not counting specific Mythic Paths or owning the DLC, you should have around four Nahyndrian Crystals in Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous by the time you head to Threshold. This means you’ve got the Purple Stone Knife and the crystals from Baphomet (Colphyr Mines), Deskari (Iz), and Areshkagal (Nameless Ruins). You can get two more in the game’s last dungeon, but only if you meet the requirements for the secret ending. Remember the necessary items/key factors before heading there, as well as the dialogue options when talking to Areelu.
If you do everything right, she’ll summon both Deskari and Baphomet. This rematch allows you to shoot them both with Midnight Bolts. These crystals are automatically counted once the fight is over.
Ascension
So, how exactly do these Fresh Nahyndrian Crystals function for the Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous secret ending? Basically, once you’ve finished off the demonic duo, you’ll be able to ascend as a demigod. Not only that, but you can bring along your companions and even Areelu depending on how many crystals you’ve collected:
- One crystal – Only the Commander.
- Two to four crystals – The Commander and Areelu.
- Five crystals – The Commander and all companions (assuming you did their companion quests).
- Six or more crystals – The Commander, all companions, and Areelu.
Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous is available via Steam.
