With the final content already in Pathfinder, are you ready to have one last romantic date with your companion? Here is how romance works in Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous A Dance of Masks and how to trigger the romance event.
Romance event in Pathfinder WOTR A Dance of Masks, explained
The romance event in the A Dance of Masks DLC is an exclusive date scene in which you along with the companion you have romanced will have a personalized date during the events of this new Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous content. Contrary to other instances or side quests in the base game and A Dance of Masks, you won’t miss this romance event like with your companion unless you completely disregard his or her invitation.
Note that the companion who will join you at the romance event depends on which companion you have decided to be in a relationship with. When A Dance of Masks takes place, any companion you have engaged romantically will ask for exclusivity and monogamy, so your choice will be reflected once it is time for the romance event to occur.
How to trigger the romantic event with your companion in Pathfinder WOTR Dance of Masks
The romance event happens right at the end of the whole Kenabres festival series of quests, with the main one being the A Grand Masquerade quest. This quest will have you travel to Kenabres, find out the reason behind the festival, defeat the dark forces behind it, and celebrate like there is no tomorrow. Let’s take a quick look at the events that take place in Kenabres during the A Dance of Masks. Note: my romanced companion is Arueshalae.
Arriving at Kenabres
After resting in the Citadel of Drezen at the start of Chapter 5, you will be visited by Arsinoe who will invite you and the rest of your companions to Kenabres for a festival filled with celebrations, with the Commander all of your accomplishments the focus of the festivities. Travel to Kenabres to begin this mysterious festival that is both colorful and a bit suspicious, meeting Rovus, the one behind the invitation – but not behind the festival.
Right after you arrive, you will be teleported to the Echo of Fury arena where a mysterious entity will reward you for completing different stages. You will have to fight the first two but you can leave afterward if you like.
Once back, you will now take part in the different festivities in the Kenabres Plaza. Interact with your companions to trigger small personal events that can even be transformed into quick side quests. In the case of Arueshalae, I helped her blend and interact with humans, making her embrace her mortality as she is now a former demon.
Discovering the truth
You will be visited again by Rovus who will ask you to join him in exploring a mysterious house where several similarly clothed individuals who are presumed to be cultists are gathered. Get to the basement of the house and fight the cultists, revealed to be Razmir cultists. Defeat them and then go back to the main square, where Razmir will be waiting for you as the one behind the festival. He will eventually open up a portal that you will enter to prevent any casualties.
Going through the portal will make you arrive at the Razmir Palace stronghold. After a text RPG section, you will be left with your companions to fend yourselves against Razmir’s followers thanks to Rovus freeing us after disguising himself as a cultist. Explore the whole area and you will eventually get to the main Throne Room where you will fight Razmir himself…
Or that’s what you think you’ll do. The Razmir we have seen throughout the DLC is only an extension of Razmir himself, with him appearing as a projection in the room. After allowing the fake Razmir to fight and eventually be defeated by you, the projection of Razmir will apologize for the inconvenience, give you his treasures as compensation, and allow you to get back to your celebrations.
Time to partay
Once you get back, all of the townsfolk will celebrate your arrival, completely oblivious to the dark undertones of the origin of the festival. You know what time it is, right? Time to par-tay, man! A couple of cutscenes will take place and then you party at a pub in Kenabres.
This will trigger the A Well Deserved Party quest in which you will once again interact with your companions and see how they deal with a party. Some of them will dance, some will be helping in the kitchen, others will be playing games and debating all night, and some will just remain in their corner, looking at the celebrations with disgust. Nice. Complete each of these interactions and you will be instructed to go to bed. However, your companion will be waiting for you. You know what this means!
Triggering the romantic event with your companion
Arueshalae – or the companion of your choice – will be waiting beside your bed and after asking me how I’m feeling, she will invite you to join her at the temple of Desna. You can ask her about the invitation by choosing options such as “A late-night visit to the House of Dreams? That’s a great idea – and very romantic!” or “Is there something at the temple you want to see?“, agree to her invitation straight away with “Sure, let’s go.“, or deny her invitation and block the romantic event with “I’m sorry, Arueshalae. Maybe some other time.”
Depending on the character role you are playing, choose the option that better suits your character. However, if you don’t want to miss the unique event, accept the request and you will find yourself at the romance event location, in this case, Temple of Desna.
A Dance of Masks romance event
Here, as you might expect, you will reminisce with Arueshalae about the history you have with her, hold her hand, and even kiss her if you want. Most importantly, you will discuss the feeling of fearing losing each other in the upcoming events. You can either soothe her fears or dismiss them altogether.
Finally, if you have picked the most romantic lines in your dialogue by being supportive and by expressing your love for Arueshalae, you will eventually embrace and kiss, all surrounded by appropriate effects and a wonderful score – the music score, I mean.
That is pretty much what you need to know to trigger the romance event in Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous A Dance of Masks! Again, use Arueshalae as a reference for the romanceable companion you chose to be your partner. It will be a great way to say goodbye to a three-year-old game with lots of content and memorable adventure.
