Epic will soon be releasing the next Paragon hero in time for Winterfest and they have also outlined plans for 2018.
We know that the first hero of 2018 will be Boris but there’s still one more hero to come this year and that’s Terra. She’s a huge axe and shield wielding character. She has been teased this afternoon in this short clip and a full reveal video should be coming soon.

In other Paragon news, Epic has posted a recap of the 2017 updates and there’s a lot of them. More importantly, they have talked about what’s planned for 2018.
A priority has to be the matchmaking which is so bad sometimes it makes you want to switch off for good. According to Epic, they have been testing the new system with Fortnite which is frustrating because Paragon players have been asking for improved matchmaking for well over a year. It really should have been higher up the priority list to keep players engaged. The good news is the new system is close to complete and will be live for Paragon in the new year.
Ranked mode is also coming and is a “top task” for Epic in 2018. They are working on ranked drafting system and a proper display for ranked status which all ties into the new matchmaking system too.
New card and gems are being worked on and they will also be added to the game in 2018 to bring more variety to builds.
Other new features in development include:
- New Onboarding and Tutorials
- Social Systems (Clans)
- New Events
- Competitions
- Lots of VO
As there’s cross-play between PC and PS4, Epic has also been looking at adding other platforms and we have to assume Xbox will be on the cards. This will help increase the player pool.
Overall, it’s been a good year for Paragon, so much has changed since I started playing nearly two years ago. It’s come a long way and it’s getting better with every update. As someone who is not keen on the style of MOBAs such as DOTA 2 or LoL, Paragon has hooked me in due to its pace and verticality. With any luck, we will see another map and mode appear at some point too.
With the game set to come out of beta in 2018 and fully launch globally, there’s a lot to look forward to. You can read the full update over Epic’s site now.
