Palworld takes a lot (and we mean a lot) of inspiration from Pokemon, so much so that the Pals have different strengths and weaknesses depending on their types. Some are self-explanatory while others are a bit more confusing.
It’s important to know the type matchups in Palworld though, especially if you’re trying to tackle some of the game’s harder boss fights against high-level enemies. Bringing the right Pals to a fight can mean the difference between life and death, and since you lose your items when you die in Palworld, most people will prefer the former over the latter.
Palworld Type Weakness Chart
This chart showcases all of the weaknesses and resistance for all Pal types in Palworld.
Type | Weak to | Effective Against |
---|---|---|
Neutral | Dark | Nothing |
Fire | Water | Grass, Ice |
Grass | Fire | Ground |
Water | Electric | Fire |
Ground | Grass | Electric |
Electric | Ground | Water |
Dark | Dragon | Neutral |
Dragon | Ice | Dark |
Ice | Fire | Dragon |
Just like in Pokemon, some types have multiple weaknesses or multiple resistances. Keep this in mind when preparing your party for a difficult fight. Fire types are the best Pals in the game right now because they have two elements that they’re effective against. Neutral Pals, on the other hand, are among the worst since they have no advantages whatsoever. Sorry, Lamball.
Also like Pokemon, a Pal can learn moves of differing types. Your Dragon-type Pal might be able to learn a Fire-type move, for example. Since you can teach Pals different moves with technology unlocked later in the game, it’s a good idea to diversify your party so you can be prepared for anything that might stand in your way when exploring.

You can check your Pal’s type and its moveset by opening the Party menu. Your Paldeck will also show the types of Pals that you’ve encountered if you want to do some research. To check the type of a wild Pal, just aim at it and make note of the icon above their head. Each type has a fairly distinct icon, so you should be able to tell from a distance.
Thankfully, most of the type matchups carry over from Pokemon, so experienced trainers should feel right at home in Palworld. Knowing the weaknesses and resistances of every Pal element is super important if you want to take on harder enemies like Kingpaca, so make sure you’re prepared before setting out on more difficult missions.
