Owl Protected by Dragons quest guide – Tears of the Kingdom (TotK)

Owl have what he's having.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom features quests everywhere you look, but they’re not always obvious. A lot of times, you have to talk to a certain someone before that strange outcropping of rocks reveals its purpose, or before you learn the significance of that chamber and its altar, or whatever else. This is especially true of the mysterious Thyphlo Ruins. Here is our guide to that location’s The Owl Protected by Dragons quest in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

As you explore the Thypho Ruins, you won’t initially find many points of obvious interest beyond the Thyphlo Ruins Skyview Tower, which you should activate so you can fast travel to the island later. However, you soon meet a researcher. He sets up camp near stone tablets that materialize as you clear various temples. To clear The Owl Protected by Dragons quest, read the tablet and then use the wind sage’s ability near an owl statue.

To find the tablet, look right near the Thyphlo Ruins Skyview Tower. From its front entrance, head northwest across the courtyard to find the researcher, Kazul. Large stone tablets with riddles inscribed on them appear as you progress the campaign. You need to complete the Tulin of Rito Village side quest (which involves clearing the Wind Temple), and that will cause the tablet you need to appear.

Read the inscription on the tablet, which guides you toward your destination. It says: ‘Display the power of the Sage of Wind to the owl protected by many dragons.’

The tablet refers to a particular location on the island with a towering statue of an owl as the focal point. I found that spot by literally just climbing over the wall behind the tablet. See the map location indicated in the above screenshot. The owl waits directly beyond the wall, just to the south. Carved blocks nearby resemble dragon heads. They are common throughout the area. Stand on the stone slab in front of the owl. Use the Vow of Wind ability gained from Tulin to perform his gust ability.

Assuming you positioned yourself properly when you activated the wind gust ability, it blows on the owl. A chamber with a treasure chest appears. Open the treasure chest to acquire three Sapphire stones. Doing so completes The Owl Protected by Dragons quest.
