As a precursor to their Overwatch eSports League system, Blizzard will be running some ‘Contenders’ tournaments for players in Europe and North America. These will take place this summer, with (initially) open sign-up and a prize pool of $50,000 USD per region.
If you’re in either of those two regions you can sign your Overwatch roster up for ‘Season Zero’ of Contenders right here. Blizzard will be looking for the top eight teams in each region. The tournament structure will whittle down the teams from open qualifiers to a group stage of 16. Then, eight will advance to playoffs.
After that, there’ll be a ‘Season One’ of Overwatch Contenders. In North America the best six teams (as determined by Season Zero) will be joined by APEX participation (South Korea) teams Envy and Rogue. These eight will play a six week round-robin tournament, and the top four will advance to compete for a $100,000 USD prize pool.
It’ll be a similar story in Europe, where the best eight Overwatch squads from Season Zero will follow the same structure. They’ll also play for a pool of $100,000 USD. More details and full entry rules can be found here.
