Despite the concerns of players, Blizzard has announced that Overwatch 2 will be fully playable as a free to play game when it launches in October. It’s a big announcement, coming out of the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase 2022. Not only did Blizzard and parent company Microsoft reveal the launch, but also a new hero. Junker Queen is the next hero coming to Overwatch 2, and she’s taking an attitude with her.
Blizzard didn’t give Junker Queen hero a full showing with the latest trailer. However, the company did drop some info on her as the show was going. According to a press release, Junker Queen is a new tank hero for Overwatch 2. She carries with her a shotgun, as well as a large battle ax that she can probably throw and recall. So, she’s pulling a Thor? Anyway, one of her abilities allows her to dart forward while spinning the ax, which looks good for both damage and mobility.
Overwatch 2 finished its first beta not too long ago. It sparked some debate, with folks supportive of some decisions but not all. But Blizzard launching Overwatch 2 as a free-to-play game, I feel, is a good move on the developer’s part. Those who weren’t convinced of it dropping the second tank will at least be able to try the changes without the cash commitment. And a new hero to try out is always enticing for a, well, hero shooter.
Meet your new queen
As mentioned, Blizzard didn’t dive too deeply into the Junker Queen, who should be coming to Overwatch 2 on launch. At least we know a little, such as her weapons and combat style, as well as one ability. Blizzard has stated that it will host a Reveal Event on June 16 at 1 PM ET on its Twitch and YouTube channels. Those who want to know more about the game and new hero may want to check that out. The team will also go over the details for the next beta.
