Today’s Good Old Games update adds in Outcast, and a pack containing Master of Orion 1 and 2.GoG.com, purveyor of all that is old and brilliant (and the Phantasmagoria games) has updated with some of the most hotly-awaited old games – and no, that’s not a contradiction in terms, because GoG updates all of them to work with modern computers as best they can.First up is Outcast, the hideously underrated action-adventure that cast you as Cutter Slade, send out into a parallel world to try and track down a probe that, unless found and repaired, could result in the destruction of the earth. For its time, it was a stunning-looking game, and despite the graphics having dated a tad since 1999 it’s still easy to see the ambition and care that went into crafting the game itself. $5.99 USD to you, sir, and that includes a soundtrack, artwork, a making of video, and outtakes.Second and third, we have a pack containing Master of Orion 1 and 2. This pair of 4X turn-based strategy games put you in command of a stellar empire with the task of ruling the galaxy through diplomacy, coercion, research, espionage, and outright violence. Both are utterly stunning, and the second remains one of the best 4X games ever made. $5.99 for the pair in one pack, complete with soundtrack. At the same time, the Coming Soon tab has been updated with One Unit Whole Blood, a pack that comprises 1998 FPS Blood and expansions Plasma Pak and Cryptic Passage, as well as Master of Magic, due “soon.”It’s a good time for 4X fans with Master of Orion here and Master of Magic on the horizon. If you’re interested in that sort of thing, have a look at our Elemental interview from yesterday to see why Stardock’s latest is going to tickle your fancy.
