The Nucleus is the boss of Othercide’s fifth and final chapter. You’ll have an easy time until it spawns the Suffering, the game’s nightmarish entity. It’s time to put an end to this ordeal, so here’s our boss guide to help you out.
Note: This first part of this guide covers the fight against the Nucleus, but you can head over to part two for the Suffering encounter. For more information about the rest of the game’s content, check out our Othercide guides and features hub.
Othercide: The Nucleus boss guide
The Nucleus boss fight info
- Health – 35,000
- Squad limit – Five
- Instinct (instant) – 250 damage to all Daughters around it; teleports somewhere else on the battlefield
- Reanimation (instant) – summons at least one Corrupted Daughter whenever it takes a turn
- Reshaping (instant) – transforms a Corrupted Daughter into a Hopebreaker mob
- First Crack (phase transition) – after reaching 60% health; resets initiative to zero (takes a turn after you’re done)
The Nucleus boss fight in Othercide won’t be a hassle at all. Once you start, you’re confronted by five Corrupted Daughters of various types, but your units should be able to handle them without issues.
Within the few turns, the Nucleus spawns. Make sure that your Shieldbearer can eventually delay the boss’ turns (preventing teleports).
My Scythedancer and Blademaster, meanwhile, both focused on constant melee hits to drop its HP. As for my Soulsingers, they took care of any Corrupted Daughters that were recently spawned.
Phase transitions
You only need to worry once the Nucleus reaches 60% health, or maybe not. The Nucleus gains a skill called Infection (charged). This fires at a cross-shaped pattern emanating from the boss.
The beam does 750 damage and anyone it hits (including Corrupted Daughters) will split into four additional beams. This means rushing to eliminate Corrupted Daughters and getting out of the way as soon as possible.
Tips
There really isn’t a particular tip I could give for this boss fight in Othercide, except maybe to keep delaying the Nucleus with Slam and just wailing away with your other melee units. The biggest test, however, is once you drop the Nucleus’ health. It’ll split open and reveal the game’s final boss: The Suffering.
If you manage to defeat the Nucleus (which is easy enough), but you’re unable to defeat the Suffering, you can still obtain the Suffering Parasite Remembrance. This provides you with +50% increased XP gains and is quite helpful if you do need to restart. You’re going to need to level-up your Daughters anyway because the Suffering boss fight will be the ultimate test of your skill.
