OnLive has revealed their comeback, outlining new subscription service Cloudlift, and how streaming will now work with, and no longer against, conventional gaming delivery systems. With this in mind, Cloudlift is launching in a partnership with Steam.
The way Cloudlift works is, for a $ 15 monthly subscription, you can stream a game in your Steam library away from your gaming PC, onto low powered devices like tablets, low-end laptops, and TVs. Their launch lineup will include Batman: Arkham Origins, The Lego Movie Videogame, and Saints Row IV. There will also be consumer options to buy games directly from Onlive to both download and stream.
OnLive has also promised improvements to latency, with the addition of datacenters, and the overall improved environment for online to better support streaming. We don’t know how it will all work out yet, but we welcome OnLive’s return and hope this means good things for gaming in the near future.
