Beauty and the Beast goes metal in Of Bird and Cage, All In! Games’ upcoming playable music album. This unique concept turns a metal music album into a video game with a powerfully dark story inspired by the fairytale. The game features music from members of famous rock and metal bands, including Evanescence and Guns N’ Roses. Of Bird and Cage will release on Steam on May 20, and a new trailer is out now.
Metal music and Beauty and the Beast may be the unlikeliest of combinations, but developer Capricia Productions has done it. According to the press release, Of Bird and Cage follows a 25-year-old drug addict named Gitta. A mysterious man named Bres kidnaps Gitta, though she quickly falls in love with him. Throughout the story, Gitta “tries to escape the physical and mental prison of her captor.” Player choices drive the story, but each decision has a consequence. All In! Games warns that the two-hour story has serious themes of trauma and Stockholm Syndrome, so “player discretion is advised.”
Capricia was determined to find only the greatest artists to create the game’s music. Arnold Nesis composed the soundtrack, with each song specifically tailored to Of Bird and Cage‘s plot. The studio brought on several famous musicians, including former Guns N’ Roses guitarist Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal and former Evanescence drummer Rocky Gray.
