Oddworld: Soulstorm finally revealed its digital release date during Sony’s State of Play event yesterday. At the moment, that date is only for Soulstorm‘s digital release, but the studio said more information will come soon regarding the physical version.

For those who are unfamiliar with the Oddworld franchise, Abe was introduced in 2014’s New ‘n’ Tasty as a floor waxer at a meat packing plant. He stumbled on the plant’s secret plan to turn fellow members of his race (Mudokons) into food. The player’s goal was to save 299 Mudokon slaves. In Soulstorm, Abe’s mission is even greater. According to Epic Games Store, Abe has accidentally sparked an uprising at the plant. Now, he must lead the Mudokons in a revolution against industrial corporations.

Oddworld: Soulstorm combines RPG-lite elements with puzzles in a 2.9D environment. Abe’s actions influence his followers, abilities, and his final score. Ultimately, the goal is to save more than 1,000 Mudokons. Along the way, you can scavenge for resources to exchange for special products. The new trailer shows Abe accessing his abilities, including the power of possession, to take control of his enemies. Check out the full video below.

Oddworld: Soulstorm will be on PC, but only via Epic Games Store

Oddworld fans first caught a glimpse of Soulstorm back in 2019. At the time, Oddworld Inhabitants revealed that the newest installment would be an Epic Games Store exclusive. In a message on Twitter, Oddworld creator Lorn Lanning revealed the reason for this decision. “We’ve been financing Soulstorm 100% ourselves. Soulstorm is our most ambitious game ever and we are committed to creating a great game that meets the highest level of quality. But to create the version of Soulstorm we want, and you deserve, we needed additional financial assistance,” he wrote.

In other words, Soulstorm needed some extra funding. Epic provided the money in exchange for Soulstorm’s exclusive position in the storefront. Oddworld: Soulstorm is available now to pre-order on Epic Games Store for $49.99 USD.
