Oculus Touch controller price appears – It’s not cheap

With the Oculus Rift now hitting retailers in the UK, promotional materials in stores give away the cost of the Oculus Touch controllers.

The benefit of the Rift at launch was that it was a lot cheaper than the HTC Vive but everyone knew that to get the full experience the Touch controllers would be essential.

Unfortunately, the Touch is not cheap and is priced at £189.99 in the UK. Yes, you read that right. Two controllers will cost that much, and add that to the £549 for the Rift, the full setup costs a cool £740.

This brings the cost of the Rift with the Touch controllers in-line with the HTC Vive which currently costs £759.00.  It’s also worth pointing out that a single HTV Vive controller costs £116.99 so the Oculus Touch controllers are cheaper.

While nobody expected Oculus to release super cheap controllers, it highlights that there’s no competitive race for market share. Oculus could have offered the Touch at a lower price if they really wanted to attract business away from HTC.

The cost of VR is still prohibitive, and after using the Vive for many months, VR is simply not worth the money both Oculus and HTC are wanting.
