The countdown is up, and Obsidian has pulled back the curtain on a $1.1 million USD Kickstarter to fund Project Eternity, a brand new isometric, party-based fantasy RPG. If you’ve followed Black Isle or Obsidian in the past few years, you’ll know many of the names behind this one: Chris Avellone (Planescape: Torment), Tim Cain (Fallout, Arcanum) and Josh Sawyer (Fallout: New Vegas).
Their plan is for Project Eternity to “.. take the central hero, memorable companions and the epic exploration of Baldur’s Gate, add in the fun, intense combat and dungeon diving of Icewind Dale, and tie it all together with the emotional writing and mature thematic exploration of Planescape: Torment“.
Which, if you’re a fan of those older-school RPG titles, would basically be a dream come true.
As ever, there are multiple reward tiers to explore; from a basic early-bird $20 USD pledge that’ll get you a digital copy of the game, all the way to a $10,000 USD (which someone has already signed on for) which gets you all the goodies and even lets you play a board game with the Obsidian staff.
I’m not going to try to keep up with the amount raised so far, because every time I refresh it’s gone up by about $5,000 USD.
