Freeman fans, the wait is set to continue.
It seems that Valve has ruled out an E3 appearance of Half-Life 2: Episode 3, at least if the convincing email denials from Gabe Newell shown at Halflife2.net are to be believed.
Speculation about a Valve E3 ‘surprise’ has been rife after an in-character Aperture Science statement was released, suggesting that the Portal 2 event had been replaced by something else. Something … surprising. The picture showing a folder with the words ‘Freeman: June 14th’ and the spooky face of the G-man which hit the internet on Friday has also been confirmed as a fake.
However, although Newell appears to have stated that E3 will not feature Half-Life 2: Episode 3, that would still leave Valve some wiggle-room to ditch the episodic structure and simply announce Half-Life 3. There’s also a possibility that the Aperture Science statement was sheer duplicity, and that the Portal 2 event will continue as planned.
