It has been announced by the Japanese outlet Gamer.ne.jp that the JRPG Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch has shipped over 1 million units worldwide.
The gorgeous JRPG was developed by Level 5 with the assistance of the hugely respected animation studio, Studio Ghibli who are known for movies like Spirited Away and Howl’s Moving Castle. Despite being a JRPG the game did extremely well in the West and received positive reviews for its gameplay, voice acting, music and beautiful graphics. The game was first released on the Nintendo DS in 2011 and then re released on PlayStation 3 a few years later.
Although the DS version sold well in Japan it wasn’t until the PlayStation 3 release that Ni No Kuni became as popular in the West. Ni No Kuni was the best selling game in the UK on the week of its release and outsold the likes of FIFA 13 and Call of Duty: Black Ops II.
The PlayStaion 3 version has now sold over 1 million units worldwide and combined with the DS version Ni No Kuni has sold 1.7 million copies. With any luck we’ll see Studio Ghibli and Level 5 join forces again in the future.
