The next Star Wars Jedi game has been confirmed to be Survivor, a sequel continuing the story of Cal Kestis. Respawn, EA, and Lucasfilm Games announced the game during Star Wars Celebration, offering some scant details. And you thought this was going to be a quiet Friday.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor continues Cal’s journey through the galaxy, far, far away. According to a press release, it will “expand upon the iconic Star Wars stories, worlds, characters, and thrilling combat first experienced in the series’ debut title.” The game takes place five years after the previous. Cal, one of the final Jedi alive, fights to stay breathing while the threat of the Empire looms ever behind him. He’s still together with BD-1, and we expected no less. The next Star Wars Jedi game will build on its foundation, offering up new skills to learn.
“Even before completing Jedi: Fallen Order, our team had a vision of how to carry the adventure for Cal, BD, and the crew into the sequel,” said Stig Asmussen, game director, Respawn, in a press release. “For Jedi: Survivor, we are working in lockstep with Lucasfilm Games to build on the legacy of Jedi: Fallen Order. We’re leveraging advanced technology to create more dynamic Jedi combat and cinematic storytelling to expand on Cal’s story as he matures and survives during the dark times. We can’t wait to share more about the game with the world later this year.”
Hello there
The teaser trailer for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor introduces a new threat. We have an all new big bad, complete with sharp teeth, pointy fingernails, and, of course, a red lightsaber. This dude looks like “bad guy 101,” but he certainly has a presence. The trailer also teases someone in liquid stasis. Not being up on all that much Star Wars lore, I really have no idea who this is supposed to be. But there’s a chance people on Twitter are shouting various names, and they’re probably all wrong.
Jedi: Fallen Order brought Soulslike gameplay to the Star Wars universe well, and folks have been wondering when the next game was coming. Today, we know that Jedi: Survivor is real, and it’ll be out on PC next year. There may be more in store over the summer, so we’ll keep you posted.
